The collaborated project Sonic Seasoning is planned as a series of tea ceremony concerts launched seasonally, in which different types of tea are selected according to the characteristics of each season, and the music also changes with the weather and the tone of the tea.
Sonic seasoning refers to the intentional matching of sound and flavour to enhance a person's multiple sensory experience.
Each session starts with meditation, then the tea ceremony is carried out with live ambient music featuring traditional Chinese instruments. With the accompany of improvised soundscapes that synchronises with the tea, the participants are expected to perceive the tea with more open sense and imagination, which enables a multi-sensory, physical and mental experience that transcended awareness itself.
The spirit of tea art emphasizes "Tao that can be described is not universal and eternal Tao", which lies in the "self-realisation" of the tea drinker, while ambient music creates a sound environment suitable for this kind of awareness and realisation with its environmental and unnoticed characteristics. The field recordings sampled from nature also intentionally remind the audience of the tea picking and making processes, which enhances the internal narratives of the whole performance.
